Husk Power Systems wins Global Business Plan Competition

In June 2008, we wrote about Husk Power Systems in relation to how it is one example of the type of ventures that are capitalizing on the fact that India is a prime nation for renewable energy innovations and adoption. The beautiful simplicity of the technology uses rice husks to create a distributed, sustainable source of power, and currently the company is focusing its technology in poverty-stricken Bihar.

But as Nextbillion points out, one of the coolest thing is that the Global Business Plan Competition is actually not one specifically focused on socially minded businesses, but is a generalist competition funded by major venture capitalist firm Draper Richards among others. It is awesome to see a triple bottom line company actually be taken seriously by mainstream investors.
