Masoom is presently working in the Parel and Worli area of Mumbai with students of night schools. Its main objective is to improve the academic performance and employability of the students in the night schools of Mumbai. Masoom began its intervention in 2006 with a participatory research project on five night schools in Mumbai. Currently Masoom is running a pilot project in two night-schools in Parel and Worli. Looking at the success of the pilot, Masoom is expanding their activities to four more schools in the same area. They have identified these four schools, one in Parel and three in Worli.

About the Masoom team

Masoom has an enthusiastic five member team consisting of three educational co-ordinators, an accounts person and an office help. These implementation team-members are people who have been educated through Night Schools or Night College in the past and hence they understand the system very well. The same team was part of the research study as well.

What we are looking for:

A new team member at the middle management level, the person should be a self starter with an entrepreneurial bent of mind for this project which is a new initiative. The person will report to the CEO directly and will be second in command of organisational development issues such as fundraising, governance, communications etc. The person would also be involved in envisioning the programme along with the team, making critical decisions and taking up the targets of the programme for the current academic year as a challenge.

The new team member will have to be energetic and sensitive to work with the education coordinators in keeping with their socio-economic background and skills; to take people along with an openness to receive and give honest feedback within the team; an openness to work in flexible conditions in terms of flexible work weeks, operational structure and people we deal with; a belief that every individual has potential to contribute to any learning process.

Position and Key Responsibility Areas

• Program – Ensure smooth operations, meeting of timelines, planning, Monitoring and Evaluation of everyday activities, Taking feedback from the schools.
• Communication: preparing content for communication material, coordinating with the vender agencies
• Documentation: Data analysis, report writing, training the team in report writing
• Fundraising: preparing proposals, budgeting reporting back to the donors
• Volunteer program – Coordinating with volunteer organisations to get new volunteers. Orientation and feedback meets with volunteers.
• In charge of organising the staff development training programs.
• Partnerships with stakeholders: Maintaining partnerships with headmasters of Night schools and explore training opportunities for teachers and students. Maintain relationships with resource people, organisations and donor partners that could add value to the programme. Strengthen relationship with existing partners.

Requirements

Necessary:

• The person should be a graduate and have a  minimum of 2 years experience of managing programs
• Basic budgeting, proposal writing, programme planning, Strong writing and speaking skills in English, Hindi and preferably Marathi
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)

Preferred:

• An MSW/BSW and a  background in Social Sciences, Economics or Human Resources with a keenness to engage in reading and keeping oneself updated on current socio-economic and political conditions
• A commitment of at least two years with us

What you can expect: A consolidated remuneration of Rupees 18, 000/- per month (subject to Tax Deducted at Source) apart from an open learning atmosphere with lots of opportunities to engage in fun activities with the youth.
