Wipro shows the way to go “Green”

A couple of weeks back, Wipro kicked off its Eco Eye Initiative – a comprehensive programme that drives increasing ecological sustainability in all its operations, and areas of its influence. In its chairman, Azim Premji’s, own words:

We firmly believe business cannot be built at the cost of ecology. It is not sustainable. Ecological Sustainability will increasingly be the defining force for society and business globally. Eco Eye is the ‘eye’ through which we attempt to see everything, and act for ecological sustainability.

Financial Express reports,

As part of its Eco Eye initiative, Wipro has developed a framework for ecological sustainability. It aims to become carbon neutral, build green data centres, launch greenware PCs, eco-friendly product engineering designs, e-waste disposal service and water treatment solutions.

After ensuring that charity indeed begins at home, Wipro – through its arm, Wipro Eco Energy – aims to partner with corporates and help them leverage Wipro’s experience to reduce carbon footprint.

Wipro is also a member of ‘The Green Grid‘, a global consortium dedicated to advancing energy efficiency in data centers and business computing ecosystems.

It is heartening to know that more and more companies are realising the importance of reducing their carbon footprint. The motivation may range from “saving nature for future generations” or “improving profitability by reducing energy consumption”. Moreover, companies like Wipro are also trying to make the business of going greeen profitable. At the same time, it is important to understand the importance of sustaining this momentum and ensure that energy conservation becomes a way of life rather than die as a fad. Commitment to a greener and more equitable planet is what will separate the good enterprises from the bad.
