Sankalp 2010 recognizes emerging and established enterprises

Sankalp, the annual social enterprise awards and investment forum organized by Intellecap, took place this week in Mumbai.  The Sankalp Awards recognized many innovative and sustainable models in the following categories: Agriculture, Food and Rural Businesses; Clean Energy; Health, Water and Sanitation; Inclusive Education; and, Technology for Development.

The 2010 winners are:

  • Agriculture, Food and Rural Businesses
  • Clean Energy
    • Emerging Enterprise: Artin Dynamics for their artificial intelligence technology application for curbing power loss
    • Established Enterprise: Servals Automation for its rural energy products – primarily cooking stoves and lamps, targeted at the rural poor
  • Health, Water and Sanitation
    • Emerging Enterprise: Piramal Water Pvt. Ltd for developing sustainable drinking water solutions for rural populations through the Sarvajal brand
    • Established Enterprise: Sarvaplast for providing high-quality, eco-friendly portable sanitation products and services through the Shramik 3S brand
  • Inclusive Education
  •  Technology for Development
    • Emerging Enterprise: Husk Power Systems for providing power systems that provide electrification through rice husk to off-grid rural Indian villages in Bihar
    • Established Enterprise: Shree Kamdhenu Electronics Pvt. Ltd. for providing complete automated solutions to rural milk cooperatives

Shital Shah

Shital’s family immigrated from India when she was only four years old, but her heart and soul still remain there. She went on to graduate from Northwestern University and returned to India as an Indicorps fellow. She completed her Master of Public Administration from New York University’s Wagner School of Public Service, specializing in International Development. In the past few years, she has been involved with the Washington Leadership Program, InSPIRE (a summer program for South Asian youth), and internships with Acumen Fund, the UN, Oxfam International, the World Bank, and New Visions for Public Schools. She currently works on savings, technology, and mobile banking projects in South Asia with ShoreBank International.
